In May 2015, the workers ofsubcontractor (GTS) of Asahi Fine-techno Korea (AFK), which is one ofthe group companies of AGC (Asahi Glass Corporation in Japan), organized aunion named “Asahi Non-regular Workers Branch” of Metal WorkersUnion.
They were forced to work in severe and poorworking conditions: Wage is hardly equal to the level ruled in a minimumwage system. No holidays even on Saturday and Sunday. Even in bad healthsuch as cold, absence is not allowed. Only 20 minutes of lunchtime. Wearing redT-shirt is forced as penalty for a trifle mistake and so on. Ifcomplaint is voiced, immediate dismissal is a response.
In earnestdesire to be treated as human being, 138 workers joined in the union.
Outrageously, one month after the union was organized,AFK forced its subcontractor (GTS) to fire all 178 workers by the simple notice of mail and dissolve GTS itself.
AGC headquarters in Tokyo is totally responsiblefor this irremissible behaviour. It is AGC that signed the investmentaccord with Kumi City where AFK is located, and dispatched its companymember to AFK as president. Therefore it doesn’t have effect tosay “AFK is another company independent from AGC”.
AGC headquarters should carry out its fullresponsibility and immediately withdraw the dismissal of 178 workers!
We sincerely ask your support to theAsahi Non-regular Workers Branch fighting for workers’ justice anddignity. Let’s change the world so that fundamental rights ofnon-regular workers prevail.
